Hello and Welcome!
My name is Barbra Mehringer and I'd like to thank you for taking the time to find out more about me and what I can offer to you and your child. I feel incredibly fortunate to have jumped into this career
over 24 years ago and have been working
in the field of Deaf Education ever since!
I began my career with a focus on Auditory/Oral Communication as a Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing and later became
a Certified Auditory Verbal Educator.
My passion, focus, and commitment are always on the whole child's development, educationally and social-emotionally, as well as on the strong parents who guide them through this journey towards Listening and Spoken Language. I encourage families and educators to learn about hearing loss and how to best support their children. Fostering strong communication skills, building educational strength and self-advocacy skills, as well as the social-emotional well-being of children with hearing loss has always been my goal.
My inspiration to work with children who have hearing loss and their families comes not only from the potential and strength I see in all children but also from the amazing experiences I've had and the progress I've witnessed as an Early Intervention Specialist,
Educator, and Consultant.
I'm also the mother of a child with disabilities, so I'm very familiar with the amount of dedication, effort, patience, strength, and,
unfortunately, the financial means it takes to build proper supports
and services for a child with special needs.
I truly believe that teaching children and supporting parents are keys to all children reaching their highest potential.
I've had countless opportunities to work with parents to learn to problem solve, remain positive through tough situations, build confidence in their decisions, and be their child's strongest advocate.
I know parents can become their child's biggest HEARo!
Currently, I work as a
Teacher of the Deaf /Auditory Verbal Educator,
Educational Consultant, and Family Support Coach.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Speech and Hearing Science
and a Master's Degree in Special Education.
Along with my LSLS Certification in Auditory Verbal Education, my certifications include Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing,
Special Education, and Pre-K through 12 educator.
I'm fortunate to have acquired specialized training in
Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health,
which is a crucial component of reaching your child's highest potential.
I look forward to helping students and their families
in their journey along The Spoken Path.
