LSLS Cert. AVT's and AVEds are professionals who are experts in the function of the auditory system and oral communication, uphold a philosophy about hearing and speaking, focus on learning spoken language through listening, and are certified in Auditory-Verbal Strategies and Techniques through the A.G. Bell Academy for Listening and Spoken Language.
LSLS Cert. AVTs are typically Speech-Language Pathologists and LSLS Cert. AVEds are Educators; Teachers of the Deaf & Hearing Impaired. Both specialists can work in schools and/or directly with teachers and families. They are trained to provide educational and therapeutic services and follow a core set of principles to ensure quality care of the child, their hearing abilities and hearing devices, their listening skills, the development of speech and language, self-advocacy skill development, social-emotional growth, and the support of their families and teachers.
